Service Description

Your first Shiatsu session usually lasts around 1 hr 30 min. We begin with a conversation about your main concern, general health, medical history, lifestyle, and what you would like support with. This also includes time to discuss any relevant safety considerations before treatment begins. Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese bodywork practice based on the principles of East Asian Medicine. It shares similar foundations with acupuncture and uses gentle pressure, stretches, and movement to support relaxation, balance, and overall wellbeing. The session is adapted to your individual needs and current presentation. It may be suitable whether your focus is mainly physical, emotional, or a combination of both. You remain fully clothed throughout the session. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement and relaxation, or bring a change of clothes with you. The session takes place on a futon mattress on the floor or on a massage table, using palms, thumbs, gentle pressure, and stretches. You may notice warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or a sense of release. Abdominal Shiatsu may also be included as an important part of the session. In East Asian Medicine, the abdomen can offer useful information about your overall balance and may be gently worked with through touch and pressure. If you feel uncomfortable with abdominal touch, have pain, recent surgery, pregnancy, digestive sensitivity, trauma history, or simply prefer not to have this area worked on, please let me know. The session can always be adapted — your comfort matters more than any “perfect” technique. After the session, you may feel calm, energised, or sometimes a little sleepy. Temporary tiredness, emotional sensitivity, vivid dreams, or mild soreness can occasionally occur and usually settles naturally. To support a safe and appropriate session, please let me know about any current health conditions, injuries, recent surgery or procedures, pregnancy, allergies, infectious skin conditions, or any areas that are sensitive or should be avoided. Shiatsu is offered as a complementary wellbeing practice. It does not involve medical diagnosis or medical treatment and does not replace medical care. Please continue any care recommended by your doctor or healthcare professional.
